Boards FAQ
Short answers about columns, tasks on a board, board views and board copies in Taska. The answers link to articles with the details.
Columns and statuses
What's the difference between a column and a status?
There's none, they're the same thing. A board column is the task's status. Move a card to another column, and its status changes. See “Boards, columns and statuses”.
How do I add a column?
Click “Create” in the board header and choose “Column”. In the “Create a status” window, enter a title, pick an icon and a color, and click “Create”. The new column goes to the end of the board.
Why can't I add a column?
On the free plans, Free and Free Team, a board can have up to 8 columns. You can add a ninth column on Pro or Business. Instead of the new column window, Taska offers to change your plan.
I want to move a column, but the whole board moves. What's wrong?
You need to hold the column first. Point to the column away from the cards, press and hold the mouse button for about a quarter of a second, and only then drag. If you drag right away, the whole board scrolls. The order of columns is the same for everyone who works with the board.
What happens to the tasks if I delete a column?
They go to the space trash together with the column. The “Delete the status” window warns you about this first. Right after deleting, you can click “Restore” in the notification, and later you can bring the column back with its tasks from the trash within 30 days.
Tasks on a board
I checked a task off with the circle, and it disappeared. Where is it?
Closed tasks are hidden on the board. Click “⋮” in the board header and choose “Show closed tasks”. See “Closed tasks: where they go and how to show them”.
A task is in the “Done” column. Why isn't it closed?
A column only sets the status. A task is closed with the circle on its card or by a column automation, if one is set up. See “Closed tasks: where they go and how to show them”.
Tasks disappeared from the board. What happened?
Most likely, filters are on. Look at the number on the funnel button and at the assignee avatars in the header, where a selected avatar has a check mark. Click “Reset” in the filter panel. See “Filters and search on a board”.
Why is there no “Add a task” button in a column?
The column's strict task limit is full. When the column has room again, the button comes back. See “Column task limit (WIP)”.
Why can't I drag a task to another column?
Taska shows the notification “Transfer is not possible” with the reason. The board's workflow may not allow this transition, the column's strict limit may be full, or the task may not meet the column's entry conditions. While you carry a card, such columns fade and show an icon. Closed tasks can't be dragged at all, and nothing moves on a read-only board.
Why does the task order go wrong again after sorting?
Sorting a column works once. It rearranges the tasks that are there now, and new or moved tasks go where you put them. To sort, open the column's “⋮” menu and choose “Tasks sorting”.
Board views
Why does the board open as a calendar or a list?
Taska remembers how you last looked at the board. Click the “Kanban” icon in the header, and the board will open as a kanban. This choice is separate for each board and the same on all your devices.
Why does Ctrl+F open the filter panel instead of the browser search?
That's by design. On a board, Ctrl+F opens the search for tasks on this board. See “Filters and search on a board”.
Why is there no project search?
Project search is only available in extended projects, knowledge base projects and roadmap projects. In a project with a single board, you search for tasks with the board filters. See “How to search within a project”.
Why doesn't the dashboard open?
The board dashboard and the time report work in a team space on the Business plan. In a personal space, Taska offers to create a team space. On other plans, it offers to upgrade to Business.
Boards in a project
Can a project have several boards?
Yes. Click “Create” in the board header and choose “Board” in the “Add to the project” block. The project becomes extended if it wasn't already. On the Free plan, a project can have one board, and on Free Team up to four. See “Simple and extended projects: how a project grows”.
How do I rename a board?
In a project with a single board, rename the project itself: on the space page, click “⋮” on its card and choose “Edit”. In an extended project, open the “Boards” tab, click “⋮” on the board card and choose “Edit”.
I copied a board, but the copy has no tasks. Why?
A board copy takes the columns and the workflow map, but not the tasks. The “Copy” item is in the “⋮” menu of a board card in the board list of an extended project.
