Today: your plan for the day
In Taska, “Today” shows tasks due today from all your spaces. Overdue tasks are at the top, and below them is your plan for the day, which you arrange yourself.
How to plan your day
- In the sidebar, click “Today”.
- Drag a task from the “Overdue” block into the “Today's tasks” list. Its deadline moves to today, and the time stays the same.
- Drag cards within the list to put the tasks in the order you want.
- To sort the list automatically, click the second button to the right of the title (“Tasks sorting”) and choose a rule.
- When a task is done, click the circle to the left of its title. The task closes and leaves the list.
“Today” shows open tasks due today where you are the assignee or there is no assignee. A task stays here until the end of the day, even if its time has already passed. If you don't close it by midnight, it moves to “Overdue”. How tasks get into the lists is explained in “Inbox, Today, Upcoming and My tasks: how tasks get into your lists”.
How to add a task to “Today”
There is no separate button for this. A task appears in “Today” when it is due today.
- In the task window, click the “Deadline” field, click the first button under the calendar (“Today”), and then click “Save”.
- On the “Today” screen, click “Create a task” in the sidebar. The deadline is filled in automatically with the start of the next hour. If you don't pick a project, the task goes to “Inbox” and shows up in both lists.
- To set a deadline for several tasks at once, select them with “Select tasks” and click “Deadline” in the bar at the bottom. See “Selecting tasks and bulk actions” for details.
If someone else is the assignee, the task won't appear in your “Today”, even if it is due today.
Order of tasks
Until you move anything, tasks are ordered by deadline time. After your first drag, your own order applies, and new tasks go to the end of the list. The order is saved in Taska and is the same on all your devices. “Today”, “Overdue”, “Upcoming” and “Inbox” each keep their own order, so rearranging one list doesn't affect the others.
The “Tasks sorting” menu has three rules: “By priority and deadline”, “By priority” and “By deadline”. A rule sorts both lists at once, today's tasks and the overdue ones, each within itself.
The “Every morning by priority and deadline” checkbox in the same menu is on by default. In the first hours of each new day, Taska sorts both lists by priority and deadline, so your own order lasts until midnight. Clear the checkbox if you want to keep your order on the following days too. See “Sorting ‘Today’ and the morning auto-sort” for details.
If the screen is empty
“Nothing planned for today” means you have no tasks due today. This is what “Today” looks like right after you sign up. Taska opens this screen after the setup wizard, even though you have no projects yet.
Start with a project. In the sidebar, click “My projects”, and on the page that opens, click “Create a project”. The steps are described in “Where to start: your first steps after signing up”. You can also start with the “Create a task” button on the empty screen. It sets the deadline to the start of the next hour, and the task appears in “Today” right away. Without a project, the task goes to “Inbox”, and you can move it to a board later as described in “Inbox: capture tasks quickly and sort them onto boards”.
“All done for today!” appears when you have closed all of today's tasks.
If you have overdue tasks but none for today, the hint “Place a task here to plan it for today” appears below the “Overdue” block. Drag a task from the block there.
If a task you expected isn't on the screen, check the causes in “Why a task is missing from ‘Today’ or ‘Upcoming’”.
