Taska

Why you only have read-only access

Updated:

Most often you have the guest role in Taska, or the project is in the archive. When you try to create or change something, a window shows the reason. Find the section below with the same title.

If the window says “Guest access”

You're a guest in this space, project or section. A guest sees tasks and articles but can't create or change them and can't post in a task chat. The task window has no “Save” button for a guest.

How to check. The window says “You have Guest access to this project”. Another sign: there's no “Create a project” button on the team's projects page.

What to do. Ask the team's owner or an admin to change your role to “Member”. They do this in the space settings: the “Members” tab, the “Access” button next to your name. On the free Free Team plan this needs a free seat, since the team holds up to 5 members including the owner. The roles are explained in “Roles: owner, admin, member and guest”.

The Guest access window over the board: the window title is outlined; below it, the explanation that you have Guest access to the project and should contact the space owner, and the project name Aurora

If the window says “Project is archived” or “Section is archived”

The project or one of its sections was moved to the archive. Everything in the archive is read-only, even for the owner.

How to check. Archived projects are in the collapsed “Archive” block at the bottom of the projects page, and their cards carry an “In the archive” label.

What to do. If you're the owner, an admin or a member, click “Restore from the archive” in the window. The project or section becomes editable again. A guest doesn't have this button. When restoring, Taska checks the plan's section limit and, if there's no room, offers to upgrade.

If the window says “Read-only until the subscription is paid”

The team's Business subscription or trial has ended, and the team has moved to the free Free Team plan. It allows up to 5 members including the owner. If there are more people, only those the owner chose keep working, and everyone else becomes read-only. Nothing is deleted.

What to do. Write to the team's owner. The owner or an admin can bring you back into work: in the space settings, on the “Members” tab, they click “Choose” and select you. If the team subscribes to Business, full rights come back for everyone at once.

If the window says “Section is frozen”

The team is on Free Team and has more than 10 sections. The sections over the limit are frozen: you can see and read them but not change them. This isn't the archive, and there's nothing to restore.

What to do. Let the owner or an admin know. They choose which sections stay active in the same place, on the “Members” tab with the “Choose” button. If the team subscribes to Business, all sections unfreeze by themselves.

If the window says “Your seat is not paid for yet”

The team's subscription is active, but the invoice for your seat wasn't paid on time. Nothing is wrong on your side, and nothing has been deleted.

What to do. Remind the team's owner about the invoice. As soon as it's paid, your rights come back by themselves. The days in read-only mode aren't charged.

If the project menu has no “Archive” and “Delete”

You were invited to a single project or section, not to the whole space. A member works with tasks fully but doesn't change the project itself. Only the owner, admins and members of the whole space can archive, delete or move it, so these items aren't in your menu. This isn't read-only mode.

How to check. The project is in the “Invited me” block of the sidebar, or in a team block that shows only the projects you were let into.

What to do. If you no longer need the project, choose “Leave the project” in its menu. For a single section, the item is called “Leave the section”. See “‘Invited me’: projects shared with you”.

If just one feature doesn't work

On the free plans, some features are view-only and can't be set up. For example, on Free Team custom task fields are visible but can't be filled in. In this case Taska offers to upgrade the plan. If you're a member or a guest of the team, the window says “This is available on a paid plan. Only the space owner can subscribe”, and the only button is “Got it”.
