How to save changes to a task

Updated:

In Taska, task fields are saved with the “Save” button. If you close the window with unsaved changes, you're asked whether to save them. The checklist, files and chat are saved automatically.

How to save your changes

  1. Open the task and change the fields.
  2. Click the “Save” button with a check mark in the bottom right corner of the window. The window closes, and the changes show up on the card.

If you close the window without clicking “Save”

An “Unsaved changes” window appears over the task window with the question “The form has unsaved changes. Save them before closing?” and three buttons.

  • “Save and close” saves the fields and closes the task window. If saving fails, for example because the “Title” is empty, the task window stays open and shows what's wrong.
  • “Don't save” closes the task window, and your changes to the fields are lost.
  • “Stay” takes you back to editing. Esc, the cross and a click outside the question window do the same.
The question shown when you close a task window with unsaved changes: the “Save and close”, “Don't save” and “Stay” buttons

The question appears however you close the window: the cross, the “Cancel” button next to “Save”, the Esc key, a click on the dimmed area around the window, the Back button in your browser or on your phone, a click on the project or board in the window header, or going to another part of Taska. If you reload the page or close the browser tab, the browser itself asks in its own window. If you haven't changed anything, the window closes right away.

The “Create a task” window has its own question. If you've entered something in it, Taska offers to save what you entered as a draft when you close it, and the task isn't created. See “How to create a task”.

What the “Save” button saves

  • “Title” and “Description”;
  • “Assignee”, “Status”, “Priority” and “Deadline”;
  • “Tags”, “Epic” and fields added to the project;
  • the “Task recurrence” block.

What is saved right away

You don't need to click “Save” for these changes, and Taska doesn't ask about them.

  • “Checklist”: new, checked, reordered and deleted items;
  • “Files”;
  • chat messages, replies and reactions;
  • blockers and related tasks;
  • the timer;
  • the “Add to favorites” star.

Changes made from the card menu are also applied immediately. You open this menu with a right-click. It has “Priority”, “Deadline” and “Assign to me”.

  • You go to a related task in the “Related tasks” section, or you click the “Back to …” arrow in the window header. Taska shows “The form has unsaved changes.” with the buttons “Save and go”, “Don't save” and “Stay”.
  • You click “Create a copy”. Taska replies “Save the changes first: the copy is made from the saved task.”
When Esc doesn't close the window

If you're replying to a message or editing your own message in the chat, Esc cancels the reply or the edit first. If you're editing the text of a checklist item, Esc cancels the edit of that item. In both cases, the task window stays open.

If “Save” doesn't work
  • The “Title” is empty or a required field isn't filled in. The field shows “Required field”, and the window stays open. Fill it in and click “Save” again.
  • The button is gray. The window is still loading the task. Wait a couple of seconds.
  • There's no button at all. The window is read-only, see “Why you only have read-only access”.
  • The status didn't change, and Taska showed “Transfer is not possible”. The board process doesn't allow this transition. The other fields were saved.
If a teammate edits the task at the same time

If a teammate saves the task while you have the window open, their changes appear in the fields you haven't touched. Fields you've already changed keep your text. If you both changed the same field, the task gets the value from whoever clicked “Save” last.
