How to move a task to another board

Updated:

In Taska, you can move a task to any board you have access to, including a board in another project or space. Select the task and click “Move” in the bar at the bottom.

How to move a task to another board

  1. Select the task. Hold Ctrl, or Cmd on a Mac, and click it, or choose “Select” in the right-click menu. You can select several tasks the same way.
  2. In the bar at the bottom, click “Move”.
  3. In the “Move to board” window, click the board you want to move the task to. It gets a check mark. Boards of projects you were invited to are at the end of the list, in the “Invited me” group. If there are more than eight boards, there's a “Search...” field at the top of the window.
  4. Read the warnings at the bottom of the window and click “Move”.

The tasks go to the top of the first column of the chosen board, in the order you selected them. A notification shows how many tasks were moved and has a “Go to board” button.

A closed task becomes open again after the move. If the new board's workflow doesn't let a task into the first column, or the task doesn't meet that column's conditions, it stays where it was. The notification counts such tasks as skipped.

To learn more about selecting tasks and the other actions in the bar, see “Selecting tasks and bulk actions”.

What changes when you move a task to another project

Within one project, a task moves with everything it has. When you move it to another project or space, some data works differently, and the window warns you about it in advance.

  • The checklist, files, chat, time tracking and task history move along with the task.
  • The epic is cleared if its roadmap stayed in the old project.
  • Tags are matched by name. If the new project has no such tag, Taska creates it there.
  • Custom field values move only to fields with the same name and type. The other values are lost.
  • The assignee is cleared if they have no access to the new project.

How to move a task along a status connection

If the project workflow connects a column to other statuses, the card has an arrow to the right of the circle.

  1. Click the arrow on the card. The “Move task to” menu opens with statuses of this and other boards.
  2. Choose a status.

A “Task moved!” notification appears with the “Undo” and “Go to board” buttons. The same list is in the right-click menu, under “Move to”.

A lock next to a status means the column has reached its task limit, and you can't choose it. A crossed-out eye appears next to statuses of a board that isn't open to you. You can still send the task there, but after the move you won't see it anymore, and there's no “Undo” button.

How to move a task from Inbox

Tasks in “Inbox” have a “Move to board” arrow next to the circle. Click it and choose a board, and there's nothing to confirm. See “Inbox: capture tasks quickly and sort them onto boards”.

The window says “No boards available”

You have no board where you can put the task. The window doesn't show projects where you are a guest, archived projects or templates. Create a project with a board as described in “How to create a project” and try again.

How to return a task to the previous board

A move from the bar has no “Undo” button. Select the task again and move it back to the previous board the same way. The task goes to the first column, and you can drag it to the column you need.

Moving on your phone

Press and hold a card for half a second to turn on selection mode. Then tap the arrow button in the bar at the bottom. On a narrow screen it has no label. The rest works the same as on a computer.
