Notification settings: in-app feed, push notifications and spaces
In the “User profile” window, on the “Notifications” tab, you choose what goes into the Taska notifications feed, which push notifications reach your phone and how loud each space is.
Notifications come through three channels, and each one has its own settings. The feed and pop-ups work inside Taska. Push notifications only go to the Taska mobile app. You turn on Telegram messages on the “Integrations” tab, see “How to use the Taska bot in Telegram”. Push notifications and bot messages arrive in the language of your account. All changes on the “Notifications” tab are saved right away.
How to set up the feed and pop-ups
At the bottom of the sidebar, click the button with your name and open the “Notifications” tab. The “In the app” settings open. The “Notification settings” gear in the notifications panel leads here too.
- In the “What lands in the feed” block, turn off the events you don't want to hear about. A turned-off event doesn't appear in the panel or in pop-ups.
- In the “Pop-up notifications” block, choose whether to show pop-ups for new events. With “Only what is addressed to me” turned on, pop-ups only appear for things that concern you personally, such as mentions, replies, assignments and deadline reminders.
Invitations and billing messages always go to the feed and can't be turned off. Otherwise it would be easy to miss an invitation to a team or the end of a subscription.
How to set up push notifications
Push notifications only go to the Taska mobile app. Browsers on a computer don't get them.
- Install the app and sign in. See “Taska on your phone: the Android app”.
- In the app, tap the menu button on the right of the bottom bar, then the button with your name. Open the “Notifications” tab (the bell icon) and tap “Mobile push”.
- If notifications aren't allowed on this phone yet, tap “Turn on notifications on this device” and allow them in the phone's prompt. Taska doesn't ask for permission in advance.
- Make sure “Send push notifications” is on, and keep the events you need in the “Task notifications” block.
- In the “Reminders” block, use the “Remind me” field to choose how long before the deadline you get a reminder. The options are 15 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour, 3 hours or a day before.
You can do steps 4 and 5 on a computer too, because push settings are shared by all your phones. Above the “Send push notifications” switch, Taska shows how many devices receive push notifications. If there are none, it says “No devices registered for push yet. Sign in to the mobile app to receive them.”
The deadline reminder goes to the task's assignee or, if there's no assignee, to its author. It arrives once per deadline. The reminder appears in the feed at the same time, even if push notifications are off.
How to set up notifications for one space
Each space can have its own rules. For example, in your work team you might only want push notifications for things addressed to you, while your personal space stays quiet. These are your personal settings. Colleagues and the team owner don't see them.
- On the “Notifications” tab, click “Spaces”. Your personal space comes first. Under each space's name, you see how its settings differ from the general ones, or “As in general settings”.
- Click the space.
- For the “In the app”, “Mobile push” and “Telegram” channels, choose “As in general settings”, “Only what is addressed to me”, “My own set of events” or “Turned off”. For your own set, select the events below.
- In the “When to send” field, choose “By the general schedule”, “Own schedule” or “At any time”.
- To return the space to the general settings, click “Use general settings”. The button appears when the space's settings differ from the general ones.
The same settings are also available in the space's own window, on the “Notifications” tab.
How to mute notifications for a while
In the “Do not disturb” settings, you can pause notifications or set a schedule. During that time, push notifications and Telegram messages don't arrive and pop-ups don't appear, but events still go to the feed. A pause applies to all spaces at once. See “‘Do not disturb’ mode”.
