Tasks FAQ

Updated:

Short answers about creating, saving and closing tasks in Taska, about the fields in the task window and about the chat. Each answer links to an article with the details.

Creating and saving

What do I have to fill in when I create a task?

Only the “Title”. You can leave the other fields empty and fill them in later, unless the project made them required. See “How to create a task”.

Why is there no “Add a task” button in a column?

The column has reached its strict task limit. The button comes back when there's room in the column again. See “Column task limit (WIP)”. If the button is there but a window with the reason opens instead of a new task, the board is read-only for you. See “Why you only have read-only access” for what to do.

I closed the window and my changes are gone. Why?

Most likely you chose “Don't save” when closing the window. If the window has unsaved changes, Taska asks about them when you close it, and “Don't save” discards them. To keep your changes, click “Save” before closing or choose “Save and close” in the question. See “How to save changes to a task”.

I closed the new task window. Can I get back what I entered?

Yes, if you saved a draft or reloaded the page. Open “Create a task” where you started, in the same browser, and what you entered comes back. After “Don't save”, there's no draft. See “How to create a task”.

Do I need to save the checklist and chat messages?

No. The checklist, files, chat, blockers and related tasks are saved right away. The button is only for task fields. See “How to save changes to a task”.

Completing tasks

I clicked the circle and the task disappeared from the board. Where is it?

Closed tasks are hidden on the board. Click “⋮” in the board header and choose “Show closed tasks”. See “Closed tasks: where they go and how to show them”.

Why is a task in the “Done” column still open?

A column only sets the status. A task is closed with the circle on the card, or by a column automation if one is set up. See “How to complete and reopen a task”.

Why doesn't a recurring task close when I click the circle?

That's by design. The circle moves the deadline to the next date in the series. To close the task for good, choose “Does not repeat” in the “Task recurrence” block, click “Save” and then click the circle. See “How to set up recurring tasks”.

How do I get a deleted task back?

Right after deleting it, click “Restore” in the notification. Later, you can restore the task from the trash within 30 days. See “How to delete and restore a task”.

Task fields

Why is there no “Assignee” field in the window?

It appears when the project has more than one person. If you're the only person in the project, or the task is in “Inbox”, you're always the assignee. See “Assignee, deadline and priority”.

Can I assign a task to several people?

No, a task has one assignee. If several people share the work, split it into separate tasks, or list the steps in the “Checklist” and mention the people responsible in the chat.

Does Taska have subtasks?

There are no separate subtasks. Keep the steps of a task in its “Checklist”. In a team space on the Business plan, you can link tasks into a chain where the next one starts after the previous one. See “Related tasks and task chains”.

Why don't links and formatting work in the description?

The task description holds plain text, so links in it don't open. Links you send in the task chat are clickable.

Chat

Can I edit or delete a chat message?

Yes. You can edit your own message at any time with “Edit” in its menu. You can delete it too, but you can't undo a deletion. See “Task chat: replies, mentions and reactions”.

Who can see the task chat?

Everyone who has access to the task. Guests can read the chat but can't write in it.
