Filters and search on a board
Filters keep only the tasks you need on a Taska board, for example by deadline, assignee or a word from the title. The filter panel opens with the funnel button or with Ctrl+F.
How to filter tasks
- In the board header, click the funnel button, “Filters”. You can also press Ctrl+F (⌘F on a Mac). The filter panel opens at the bottom of the board.
- In the “Search tasks...” field, type a word from the title, description, a tag or another field of the task.
- If needed, pick a deadline in the “Any deadline” list, such as “Overdue” or “Next 7 days”.
- If needed, select values in the “Assignee”, “Priority”, “Tags” or “Epic” lists.
- On the right side of the panel, check how many of all the tasks are left on the board.
Filters work in both the “Kanban” and the “List” view. Different fields combine with “and”, so a task has to match all the conditions at once. Within one list, the options combine with “or”. If you select two assignees, both people's tasks stay.
Taska builds the options in the lists from the tasks that are on the board right now. That's why there are no empty options, and the “Assignee” list appears only when the board has at least two assignees.
What the “Search tasks...” field looks for
- The task's title and description. The full description is searched when the query has at least two characters.
- Status, priority, epic, tags, author and assignee.
- Dates as they're written on the card.
- The values of the task's custom fields.
How to clear filters
- Click “Reset” in the panel. All filters are cleared at once.
- Press Esc. The first press clears the filters, and the second closes the panel.
- The cross in the panel closes it but keeps the filters. While they're on, the funnel button shows their number.
Filters last while the board is open. If you go to another board or leave the page, they're cleared automatically.
Quick filter by assignee
If several people work on the board, round assignee avatars appear in the header before the buttons. You come first.
- Click an avatar. Only that person's tasks stay on the board, and a check mark appears on the avatar.
- To add another person, click their avatar.
- To clear your choice, click the avatar again.
If there are more than six assignees, some of them are hidden under a “+N” button. The quick filter is remembered in this browser for this board, so your choice stays after you reload the page. The “Reset” button in the filter panel clears it too.
What other filters there are
The “Any blockers” list appears when the board has blocked tasks. The “Any relations” list is visible when the board has related tasks. You can also filter by custom fields: you select list values with check boxes, text is matched by part of a word, and numbers and dates are set as a range.
Tasks disappeared from the board
Check the number on the funnel button and the avatars in the header. Filters may be on, or the quick filter by assignee may be remembered from last time. Click “Reset” in the filter panel. If only completed tasks are missing, they're closed and hidden. See “Closed tasks: where they go and how to show them”.
Ctrl+F opens the panel instead of the browser search
That's by design. The browser's search doesn't work well on a board, because the columns scroll on their own and the match ends up off screen. In the task window and on maps, Ctrl+F searches the page as usual in the browser.
On your phone
There's no funnel button and no avatars in the header. Tap “⋮” in the board header and choose “Filters”. The number of active filters is shown on the “⋮” button.
You need to find a task on another board
Filters only work on the open board. To search the whole project, open project search. See “How to search within a project”. To search all your spaces, press Ctrl+K. See “Search and quick navigation (Ctrl+K)”.
