How to create a task on a board

Updated:

On a Taska board, you create a task right in the column you need. The plus in the column header puts it at the top, “Add a task” below the cards puts it at the bottom, and the column sets its status.

How to add a task to a column

  1. Choose the column the task starts in. The column becomes its status.
  2. Click the plus button in the column header if the task should go to the top. To put it at the bottom, click “Add a task” below the cards.
  3. In the “Create a task” window, enter a title. You can fill in the other fields now or later.
  4. Click “Create” or press Enter in the “Title” field.

The task appears in the column, and Taska shows a “Task created” notification. The window's fields are described in detail in “How to create a task”.

In an empty column, the “Add a task” button is at the top, right below the header. In the “List” view, the columns are blocks from top to bottom, and the buttons are the same.

What's filled in automatically

  • “Status” is the column you opened the window from. You can change it right in the window, and the task goes to another column.
  • The project and board are the current ones.
  • “Assignee” is you. The field is visible when the project has more than one person, and you can change it.

The deadline, priority and other fields keep the project's defaults. If the project has required fields, they're marked with an asterisk, and the task isn't created without them.

Other ways on a board

  • Click “Create” in the board header and choose “Task”. The task goes to the top of the first column.
  • Right-click an empty spot in a column and choose “Add a task”. The task goes to the top.
  • Click “Create” and choose “Task chain” to add several tasks that follow one another. Linking tasks works in a team space on the Business plan.
  • In the “Calendar” view, click “Create” and choose “Task”. The new task gets a deadline in this calendar.

A column has no plus and no “Add a task” button

The column has a strict task limit, and it's full. While the column has no room, you can't create a task in it. Close or move one of the tasks, and the buttons come back. See “Column task limit (WIP)”. If the board has no columns at all, create a column first: “Create”, then “Column”.

A window with an explanation opened instead of the task window

The board is read-only. This happens if you're a guest in the project, the project or board is archived, or the section is frozen by the free plan limit. The window title names the reason, such as “Guest access” or “Project is archived”. A member with full access can create tasks. See “Why you only have read-only access”.

The task was created, but it's not in the column

The board has filters on, and the new task doesn't match them. Check the number on the “Filters” button in the header and the assignee avatars next to it: a selected avatar has a check mark. Click “Reset” in the filter panel, and the task appears. See “Filters and search on a board”.

On your phone

Tap the plus button in the bottom bar. On a board, the task goes to the first column. To add a task to a specific column, use that column's “Add a task” button.
