Archiving projects and sections
In Taska, the archive removes a project or section from your working list and makes it read-only. Archived items don't take up room in your plan's limit, and you can bring them back at any time.
How to archive a project
- In the sidebar, click the name of the space.
- On the project card, click “⋮” and choose “Archive”.
- In the “Archive the project” window, click “Archive”.
Taska shows a notification that the project has been moved to the archive. The same “Archive” item is in the “⋮” menu in the header of an extended project, a knowledge base project and a roadmap project. You'll also find it when you right-click the project in the sidebar.
What happens to an archived project
- The project disappears from the sidebar and from the main project list. It's in the “Archive” block at the bottom of the space page.
- The project is read-only for everyone who works in it. A bar above the project header says “Read-only: this project is archived”.
- The project's tasks disappear from “Today”, “Upcoming” and “My tasks”. See “Why a task is missing from ‘Today’ or ‘Upcoming’”.
- The project and everything from it that was in “Favorites” disappear from there. Once you restore the project, the bookmarks come back.
- The project doesn't take up room in your plan's section limit.
Archiving doesn't delete anything. Tasks, articles and chats stay where they are, and you can open and read them.
How to restore a project from the archive
- On the space page, click “Archive” at the bottom of the list. The block expands.
- On the project card marked “In the archive”, click “⋮” and choose “Restore from the archive”.
There's another way. Open the archived project and click “Restore” on the “Read-only” bar above the header. If you try to change something in an archived project, Taska shows the “Project is archived” window, which also has a “Restore from the archive” button.
A restored project takes up room in the limit again. If there's no room, Taska shows a window saying “Project limit reached. Upgrade your plan to restore this project from the archive”. Free up room, for example by archiving another project, or change your plan.
How to archive a section
In an extended project, you can archive a single board, knowledge base or roadmap and keep the other sections in use.
- Open the project and choose the section tab in the header, such as “Boards”.
- On the section card, click “⋮” and choose “Archive”.
- In the confirmation window, click “Archive”.
An archived section works like an archived project. It's read-only, doesn't count towards the limit, and disappears from the sidebar and from the section switcher. Inside the section, a bar says “Read-only: this section is archived”.
How to find and restore an archived section
Archived sections are hidden in the list.
- On the section tab, such as “Boards”, click “⋮” in the project header and choose “Show archive”. The number next to the item shows how many sections are archived.
- The archived cards appear in a separate “Archive” block after the active ones.
- On an archived card, click “⋮” and choose “Restore from the archive”.
When you reload the page, the archive is hidden again. You can also restore a section with the “Restore” button on the bar inside the section itself.
A board has no “Archive” item
In a simple board project, the board is the project. Archive the whole project from its card on the space page. Single sections can be archived only in an extended project.
How archiving differs from deleting
A deleted project or section goes to the space trash and disappears after 30 days. The archive keeps everything with no time limit, and you can open and read it, but you can't change it.
Templates can't be archived
Project templates from the template library can't be moved to the archive. Delete a template you don't need in the “Template library”.
