Taska

The task window: what's in it

Updated:

In Taska, click a card to open the task window. The fields are on the left, the checklist and files in the middle, the chat on the right. The “Save” button in the bottom right corner saves the fields.

What's in the window

The task window: the header with the task location is numbered 1, the task fields 2, the bottom row with buttons 3, the checklist and files 4 and the chat 5
  1. Header. It shows where the task lives: “Project / Board”, or “Inbox” for a task without a project. Clicking the project or board closes the window and opens it. On the right of the header are the cross that closes the window and the “⋮” button. Its menu has “Set up the task form”, and tasks in a team space also have “Set a blocker” and “Link with a task”. When the task window is wider, these commands appear in the header as separate icons. If TaskAI is available to you, the header also has its button.
  2. Task fields. “Title”, “Description”, “Assignee”, “Status”, “Priority”, “Deadline”, “Tags”, “Epic”, fields added to the project, and the “Task recurrence” block at the bottom. Some fields don't always appear. “Assignee” shows up when the project has more than one person, and “Epic” when the project has epics.
  3. Bottom row. The icons on the left delete the task, copy a link to it, create a copy, add it to favorites and open the task history. On the right are the “Cancel” button with a cross and the “Save” button with a check mark. When the checklist and chat are open next to the fields, the buttons show only their icons.
  4. Checklist and files. At the top is the side block with the “Checklist”. For tasks in a team space, its header also switches to “Related tasks” and “Blockers”. Below it is the “Files” block with the task's files, including files attached to chat messages.
  5. Chat. The discussion of the task. Above the message field there's a timer for time tracking. It works in team spaces on the Business plan.

You can drag the borders between the columns. Double-click a border to restore the default width.

What the button saves and what is saved right away

Task fields are saved only when you click “Save”. The checklist, files, chat messages, blockers and related tasks are saved right away, and your teammates see them. See “How to save changes to a task” for details.

Example

You open a task on the “Release” board. The header says “Aurora / Release”. You move the deadline to Friday and click “Save”, and the window closes. Then you open the task again and check off a checklist item. It's saved immediately, and a teammate sees it checked even if you close the window with the cross.

The window on a phone

On a phone, the window takes up the whole screen and is called “Task”. Its parts are on tabs with icons: fields, checklist, related tasks and blockers, chat, files. The buttons at the bottom of the fields tab are icons only too. Text you've typed isn't lost when you switch tabs.

How to look at a task without opening the window

Hover over a card and press Space, or keep the pointer on the card for a moment. A panel with the main details opens on the right. See “Card view, focus and quick look”.

Why the fields are gray and there's no “Save” button

The window is read-only. This happens if you're a guest in the project or the project is archived. See “Why you only have read-only access” for what to do.
