Sorting “Today” and the morning auto-sort
In Taska, the “Tasks sorting” button arranges “Today” by priority or deadline. The list sorts itself every morning while “Every morning by priority and deadline” is checked in the same menu.
How to sort “Today” by a rule
- In the sidebar, click “Today”.
- To the right of the title, click the second button (“Tasks sorting”).
- Choose “By priority and deadline”, “By priority” or “By deadline”.
The tasks are rearranged right away, and there's nothing to confirm. The rule sorts both lists, “Overdue” and “Today's tasks”, each on its own. Tasks don't move from one list to the other, and their deadlines don't change.
| Rule | Which tasks come first |
|---|---|
| “By priority and deadline” | Tasks with a higher priority. With equal priority, the task with the earlier deadline comes first |
| “By priority” | Tasks with a higher priority. With equal priority, the task created earlier comes first |
| “By deadline” | Tasks with an earlier deadline. In “Overdue”, the oldest ones are at the top |
After sorting, the new order becomes your own order. You can keep dragging cards by hand. New tasks for today go to the end of the list. If you raise a task's priority, it doesn't move up by itself, so choose the rule again.
Example
Say these tasks are planned for today. “Check the beta 0.9 build on iPhone” at 9:30 AM and “Prepare the investor demo” at 12:00 PM have High priority, “Beta 0.9 release” at 4:00 PM has Highest, and “Pick up the laptop from repair” at 6:30 PM has Normal. Until you move them, they are ordered by time. After “By priority and deadline”, the release comes first, then the build check and the demo, and the 6:30 PM task stays last.
How the morning sort works
The “Every morning by priority and deadline” checkbox is at the bottom of the “Tasks sorting” menu and is on from the start. Below it you see “Your own order lasts until midnight”.
- Once a day, shortly after midnight, Taska sorts “Today's tasks” and “Overdue” with the “By priority and deadline” rule. You don't need to have Taska open for this.
- Midnight is based on the time zone Taska takes from your device.
- An open tab and the phone app rearrange themselves.
- The checkbox is saved in your account and applies on all your devices.
How to keep your own order on the next days
- To the right of the “Today” title, click “Tasks sorting”.
- Click “Every morning by priority and deadline” to clear the checkbox.
Your order no longer resets in the morning. Tasks you already arranged keep their places, and new ones go after them by deadline time. To turn the morning sort back on, click the checkbox again.
If you see “Failed to sort tasks”
Taska couldn't save the new order, for example because the connection dropped. Check your internet connection and choose the rule again. If the checkbox didn't change, you'll see “Failed to save the setting”, so try clicking it again too.
Meetings from your own calendar
If “Today” shows meetings from a connected calendar, sorting puts them back at their own times between the tasks.
