Boards, columns and statuses
A board in Taska shows tasks in columns, and each column is a task status. Move a card to another column, and its status changes.
What a board is made of
- The board header. The board name is on the left, and the buttons for working with the board are on the right: “Filters”, the card view, the board views, “⋮” with the “Board actions” menu, and “Create”.
- Columns. Each column has a name, an icon and a color. The column header has a plus button for a new task and “⋮” with the column menu.
- Task cards. A card shows the deadline, priority, assignee and new messages. See “Task card: what it shows”.
If several people work on the board, the header shows the assignees' avatars before the buttons. Click an avatar, and only that person's tasks stay on the board. See “Filters and search on a board”.
Column and status
A column and a status are the same thing. In the task window, the “Status” field shows which column the task is in. If you change the status in the window and save the task, the card moves to another column. It works the other way too. Drag a card to the next column, and the task's status changes.
Columns set the path a task takes on this board. For example, “New”, then “In progress”, then “Done”. The order of columns is the same for everyone who works with the board.
A new board without a template has six columns: “New”, “Paused”, “In progress”, “Done”, “Closed” and “Canceled”. A board created from a template gets its own columns. You can rename, recolor, reorder and delete columns. To add a column, click “Create” in the board header and choose “Column”. On the free plans, Free and Free Team, a board can have up to 8 columns.
Status and completing a task
The status shows what stage the work is at. Whether a task is complete is shown by the circle to the left of its title on the card. Click the circle, and the task closes and leaves the board.
Where closed tasks go and how to show them is explained in “Closed tasks: where they go and how to show them”. Column automations are explained in “Status automations”.
A board in a project
A board is one of a project's sections. In a simple board project, there's one board, and the board is the project. An extended project can have several boards, for example one for each team. Each board has its own columns. See “Simple and extended projects: how a project grows”.
Board views
You can look at the same board in different ways. The view buttons are a group of icons in the board header: “Kanban”, “List”, “Board process”, “Task relations”, “Calendar”, “Dashboard” and “Time report”. To see a view's name, point to its icon.
Kanban shows the columns from left to right, and the list shows them as blocks from top to bottom. Taska remembers how you last looked at the board: as a kanban, a list or a calendar. Next time, the board opens the same way.
Example
The Aurora team's “Development” board has four columns: “Backlog”, “In progress”, “Code review” and “Ready for testing”. Mark takes a task from “Backlog” and moves it to “In progress”. When the code is ready, he moves the card to “Code review”. After the review, the task goes to “Ready for testing”, and Mark closes it with the circle.
