Where to start: your first steps after signing up

Updated:

After you sign up for Taska, your personal space is empty. Create a project and your first task. If you work with others, set up a team and invite your colleagues.

What you see after your first sign-in

Once you finish the setup wizard, Taska opens the “Today” screen. It's empty because nothing is due today yet. The sidebar is on the left. At the top are your personal task lists: “Inbox”, “Today”, “Upcoming” and “My tasks”. Below them is “My projects”, which is your personal space. Your projects will appear there.

The Today screen after the first sign-in: the personal task lists and My projects are outlined in the sidebar

Step 1. Create a project

A project groups tasks on one topic, such as renovating a flat or launching a website. Its tasks are arranged in the columns of a board.

  1. In the sidebar, click “My projects”.
  2. On the page that opens, click “Create a project”. To start from a ready-made project with boards and columns, click “From a template” and pick one.
  3. In the “Title” field, enter a name for the project.
  4. In the “The project grows with your work” block, keep “Board” selected. You can add “Knowledge base” and “Roadmap” to the project later.
  5. In the “Board template” block, pick ready-made columns or leave “Blank board”. A board template sets the board's columns. Ready-made templates also add task fields and rules for moving tasks between columns.
  6. Click “Create”.
The empty My projects page: My projects in the sidebar is numbered 1, the Create a project button is numbered 2
The Create a project window: the Title field, the sections block with Board selected, the Board template block and the Create button are numbered 3 to 6

Taska opens the new project's board right away.

Step 2. Add your first task

  1. In the first column of the board, click “Add a task”.
  2. Enter a title for the task.
  3. If the task is for today, click the “Deadline” field and then the first button under the calendar (“Today”).
  4. Click “Create”.

The task appears in the column. If it's due today and you are its assignee or it has no assignee, it also shows up on the “Today” screen.

If there's no suitable project

You can also note down a task without a project. Click “Create a task” in the sidebar, enter a title and click “Create”. The task goes to “Inbox”, and you can move it to a board later.

Step 3. Create a team and invite colleagues

Skip this step if you work alone. A team is a separate space with shared projects that all its members can see. A new team gets a 30-day trial of Business, Taska's paid plan for teams.

  1. In the sidebar, click “Add a team”.
  2. Enter a team name and click “Create team space”.
  3. Click the team's name in the sidebar. On the page that opens, click “⋮” in the top right corner and choose “Space settings”.
  4. Open the “Access” tab and click the row with the team's name. It's the first row in the list.
  5. Click “Add by email” and enter your colleagues' addresses, separated by commas.
  6. Keep the “Member” role or choose another one. The roles are explained in “Roles: owner, admin, member and guest”.
  7. Click “Send invitations”.
Sidebar: the Add a team button is numbered 1
The Create a team space window: the team name field and the Create team space button are numbered 2
Space settings, Access tab: the first row of the tree with the team name is numbered 4
The Invite by email window: the addresses field, the role and the Send invitations button are numbered 5, 6 and 7

Every colleague you invite gets an email with a link. People who already have a Taska account also see an “Invitation” notification in Taska with “Accept” and “Decline” buttons.
