Keyboard shortcuts and the right-click menu
In Taska, Ctrl+K opens search, Ctrl+J opens TaskAI, and Esc closes a window or menu. On a Mac, press ⌘ instead of Ctrl. Right-clicking a card or row opens a menu with its commands.
Below are all shortcuts, grouped by where they work. Letter shortcuts work with any keyboard layout.
Everywhere
| Windows | Mac | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Ctrl+K | ⌘K | Open or close search. If the cursor is in a task description or in article text, it inserts a link |
| Ctrl+J | ⌘J | Open or close the TaskAI panel. Works if you have access to TaskAI |
| Esc | Esc | Close a window, menu, search, or a list in the breadcrumbs |
The Back button in your browser or on your phone closes the last window you opened. If no window is open, it takes you to the previous page.
Search
| Windows | Mac | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Up and down arrows | Up and down arrows | Pick a row |
| Enter | Enter | Go to where the item lives |
| Ctrl+Enter | ⌘+Enter | Open the task window or section page right away |
See “Search and quick navigation (Ctrl+K)” for details.
Boards and personal task lists
These keys work on boards and in “Today”, “Inbox”, “Upcoming” and “My tasks”.
| Windows | Mac | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Space | Space | Open or close the quick look panel. The pointer must be on a card. If you hold Space for more than a third of a second, the panel closes when you let go |
| Arrow keys | Arrow keys | Go to a neighboring task while the quick look panel is open |
| Enter | Enter | Open the task window from the quick look panel |
| Esc | Esc | Close the quick look panel or clear the card selection |
| Number keys 1 to 7 | Number keys 1 to 7 | Turn on focus: 1 “Deadlines”, 2 “Messages”, 3 “Blockers”, 4 “Chains”, 5 “Stale”, 6 “Mine”, 7 “Metrics”. Press the same key again to turn focus off |
| 0 | 0 | Turn focus off |
| Ctrl and click a card | ⌘ and click a card | Select the card, so you can then apply one action to several tasks at once |
| Ctrl+F | ⌘F | On a board, open the filters panel and jump to task search |
Space, the number keys and the arrow keys don't work while the cursor is in an input field or a window is open. They aren't available on a phone. You can turn them off in the card settings, in the “Keys and the panel” block. See “Card view, focus and quick look” for how to get there and what focus is.

|---|---|---|
| Enter in the “Title” field | Enter in the “Title” field | Create the task. Works in the new task window |
| Enter in the field for a new checklist item | Enter in the field for a new checklist item | Add the item |
| Esc while editing a checklist item | Esc while editing a checklist item | Cancel the edit of the item. The task window stays open |

| Enter | Enter | Start a new line |
| Up arrow in an empty field | Up arrow in an empty field | Edit your last message |
| Esc | Esc | Cancel the edit or the reply |
In the TaskAI chat, Ctrl+Enter (⌘+Enter on a Mac) sends the message too. See “Task chat: replies, mentions and reactions” for more about the chat.

| Ctrl+Enter | ⌘+Enter | Create the chain |
Article editor
| Windows | Mac | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Ctrl+B | ⌘B | Bold |
| Ctrl+I | ⌘I | Italic |
| Ctrl+U | ⌘U | Underline |
| Ctrl+E | ⌘E | Inline code |
| Ctrl+K | ⌘K | Link on the selected text |
| Ctrl+Z | ⌘Z | Undo |

| Ctrl+Shift and a number from 1 to 6 | ⌘+Shift and a number from 1 to 6 | Turn the line into a heading of that level |
| Shift+F10 or the menu key | Shift+F10 | Open the block menu |
| Delete or Backspace | Delete or Backspace | Delete the selected blocks |
The editor also reacts to a few characters.
- “/” on an empty line opens the block menu, and “//” opens the block gallery. On a Russian or German keyboard layout, the same key types “.” or “-”, and those open the menu too.
- “[[” opens a search for the article you want to link to.
- “@” opens a list of teammates so you can mention one of them.
The right-click menu
Right-clicking opens Taska's own menu instead of the browser menu. It shows the commands for whatever you clicked. These are usually the same commands as in the three-dot menu, plus “Open in a new tab” and “Copy link”.
| Where to right-click | What's in the menu |
|---|---|
| A task card on a board, in the lists or in the calendar | “Open the task”, “Quick look”, “Open the chat”, “Complete the task”, “Status”, “Priority”, “Deadline”, “Assign to me”, “Create a copy”, “Delete” and more |
| Several selected cards | Commands for all selected tasks at once |
| A project or section row in the sidebar | “Open in a new tab”, “Copy link”, “Add to favorites” (“Remove from favorites” if it's already there). Your own projects and sections also have “Archive”, “Delete” and other commands |
| A space header in the sidebar | “Add a project”, “Space settings” or “Personal settings”, “Collapse”, “Leave the space” |
| A board column, a checklist item, a task file, a chat message | Commands for that column, item, file or message |
| Project and section cards, favorites bookmarks, knowledge base articles and folders, epics on a roadmap, objects on the workflow diagram | Commands for that object |
| An image in the chat, in an article or in a file list | “Open in a new tab”, “Copy image”, “Download” |
| An input field or article text | “Cut”, “Copy”, “Paste”, “Select all” |
Elsewhere, right-clicking does nothing. The menu closes when you click outside it, press Esc or scroll the page. When you choose “Paste”, the browser may ask for permission to read the clipboard.
There's no right-click menu on a phone: a long press there selects text and drags cards.
