Column task limit (WIP)
In Taska, a task limit (WIP limit) caps how many open tasks can sit in a column at the same time. A signal limit warns you when it's exceeded, and a strict limit keeps extra tasks out.
How to set a limit
- Click “⋮” in the column header and choose “Edit”.
- In the “Edit the status” window, enter a number from 1 to 99 in the “Task limit” field.
- To the right of the number, choose a mode: “Signal: warn only” or “Strict: forbid exceeding”.
- Click “Save”.
A counter such as “3/5” appears in the column header. The first number is how many tasks are in the column now, the second is the limit. A signal limit has a speedometer icon next to it, a strict limit has a lock.
You can also set the limit right when you create a column, in the “Create a status” window. To remove a limit, clear the “Task limit” field and click “Save”.
What counts toward the limit
- Only open tasks. Closed tasks don't count, even when they're shown on the board.
- All open tasks of the column. Board filters hide cards, but they don't change the counter.
Signal limit
It doesn't forbid anything. When the column has more tasks than the limit, the counter in the column header blinks, and Taska shows the notification “The task limit in the status ‘In progress’ has been exceeded: 6 of 5”. Everyone who has the board open at that moment sees it.
Strict limit
When the column is full, Taska keeps new tasks out of it.
- The plus in the column header and the “Add a task” button disappear.
- You can't drag a card into the column. The column shows a lock, and Taska says “Transfer is not possible” and “The status ‘In progress’ is full: no more than 5 tasks at a time”.
- In the task window, this status isn't available in the “Status” field. The same goes for the menu that moves tasks along status connections and for changing the status of several tasks at once.
- “Create a copy” in the card menu is unavailable and marked “Task limit”.
If the limit was lowered while the column already had more tasks, the extra tasks stay where they are, and the counter turns red. New tasks get in once the column has room.
The column closes tasks by itself
If the column has the “Close the task” automation, tasks become closed as soon as they get there, so they don't count toward the limit. The status window warns about this under the limit field. See “Status automations” for details.
The subscription has ended
Limits stop working, and the counters disappear from the column headers. The values are kept and work again after you pay.
