# How to use the Taska bot in Telegram

The Taska Telegram bot sends task notifications and a daily summary, and turns a message in the chat into a task in your “Inbox”. To connect it, enter your chat ID on the “Integrations” tab.

The bot writes and replies in the language of your Taska account. You can change the language in your profile, see “[How to change the interface language](https://taska.be/en/help/489-how-to-change-the-interface-language)”. Until the chat is connected, the bot replies in the language set in Telegram, or in Russian if Taska doesn't support that language.

## How to connect the bot

1. In Telegram, open the @Taska_the_bot bot. There's also a link to it in Taska, in the settings of the “Telegram Bot” card.
2. Start the bot with the button at the bottom of the chat, or send it the /start command. The bot replies with a message that contains the ID of this chat.
3. In Taska, click the button with your name at the bottom of the sidebar and open the “Integrations” tab.
4. On the “Telegram Bot” card, click “Show settings”.
5. Copy the ID from the bot's message into the “Chat ID” field. You can leave the “Telegram Username” field empty.
6. Turn on “Activate integration” and click “Save”.

The User profile window: the Integrations tab is numbered 3, the Show settings button on the Telegram Bot card 4

Telegram Bot card settings: the Chat ID field with a chat number is numbered 5, the turned-on Activate integration switch 6

The card now says “Active”, and the bot sends a message saying the integration with Taska is set up. If the ID has a typo, Taska shows “Failed to save integration settings.” You can get the ID again with the /id command.

You can connect one Telegram chat to a Taska account.

## What the bot sends

On the “Telegram Bot” card, there are switches below the ID field. By default, all of them are on. Click “Save” after you change them, because the bot settings aren't saved automatically.

- “Notification Settings”. New tasks, status changes, completed tasks, messages in task chats and tasks assigned to you.
- “Reminders”. “Reminders an hour before the deadline” go to the task's assignee, or to its author if there's no assignee. Each deadline gets one reminder.
- “TaskAI”. The “TaskAI completed a routine” message contains only the routine's name and a link to the result.
- “Digests”. The “Morning digest of tasks for the day” arrives at the start of your activity hours, and the “Evening summary of the day” at the end. The time is shown next to each in parentheses, and you change it in your profile. See “[Profile: name and activity hours](https://taska.be/en/help/488-profile-name-and-activity-hours)”.

The bot switches: Notification Settings, Reminders, TaskAI and Digests with the morning and evening digest times are outlined, with the Save button below

The bot always sends mentions, replies to your messages, reactions and comments on articles. There are no separate switches for them. You can turn Telegram off or set it up differently for a single space, see “[Notification settings: in-app feed, push notifications and spaces](https://taska.be/en/help/491-notification-settings-in-app-feed-push-notifications-and-spaces)”. In “Do not disturb” mode, the bot stays silent, see “[‘Do not disturb’ mode](https://taska.be/en/help/494-do-not-disturb-mode)”.

## How to create a task from Telegram

1. Send the bot some text, for example “Call the supplier”. The bot turns it into a new task card.
2. If needed, add details with the “Description”, “Priority” and “Deadline” buttons. The bot also adds your next message to the description.
3. Tap “Create a task”.

The task appears in your “Inbox”, see “[Inbox: capture tasks quickly and sort them onto boards](https://taska.be/en/help/496-inbox-capture-tasks-quickly-and-sort-them-onto-boards)”. Nothing is created until you tap “Create a task”. To cancel, tap “Cancel”.

The “Create a task” button on the bot's keyboard and the /new command first ask for a name, then show the same card.

The deadline menu has “Today by” and “Tomorrow by” buttons with an hour taken from your activity hours, plus “In a week” and “Enter a date”. Send a date as 31.12, 31.12.2025 or 31.12 18:00. You can also send just a time, such as 18:00. If that time has already passed today, the deadline is set for tomorrow.

## How to respond to a notification

Task notifications come with buttons.

- “Complete” completes the task.
- “Tomorrow” moves the deadline to tomorrow, at the start of your activity hours.
- “Reply” waits for your next message and posts it to the task chat. The bot waits for 30 minutes.

You can also reply to a bot message that links to a task the same way you reply to any message in Telegram. Your text goes to that task's chat.

## The daily summary

The “Today” button on the bot's keyboard and the /today command send a summary. It lists overdue tasks first, then tasks with a deadline today. The “Overdue to today” and “to tomorrow” buttons under the summary move all overdue tasks at once, and “Refresh” updates the summary.

The morning summary looks the same. The evening summary shows what was completed during the day, what's left for today and how many tasks are overdue.

## Bot commands

| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| /new | Create a task in “Inbox”. The “Create a task” button does the same |
| /today | Send today's summary. The “Today” button does the same |
| /status | Show whether the chat is connected and which notifications are on. The “Status” button does the same |
| /help | Explain what the bot can do. The “Help” button does the same |
| /id | Send the ID of this chat |
| /cancel | Cancel creating a task |

## How to turn the bot off

To stop messages for a while, turn off “Activate integration” and click “Save”. To disconnect the chat for good, click “Reset”. The chat ID and the bot settings are cleared.

The bottom of the connected Telegram bot settings: the Reset button is outlined, next to the Save button

The bot says the chat isn't connected to Taska

The chat isn't connected, or the integration is turned off. Send the bot /status. If it replies that the integration isn't active, open the “Integrations” tab and check that the chat ID matches the one /id sends and that “Activate integration” is on. Then click “Save”.

The summary arrives at the wrong time

Summaries arrive at the start and at the end of your activity hours, in your profile's time zone. Change the hours on the “Profile” tab. See “[Profile: name and activity hours](https://taska.be/en/help/488-profile-name-and-activity-hours)”.
