# How to search within a project

Taska's project search finds tasks, boards, knowledge bases, roadmaps, epics, articles, folders and workflow map objects in one project. Open it with the magnifying glass button in the project header.

Where project search is available

Extended projects, knowledge base projects and roadmap projects have project search. A project with a single board doesn't have it, so use the board filters there. See “[Filters and search on a board](https://taska.be/en/help/569-filters-and-search-on-a-board)”.

## How to search in a project

1. Open the project and click the magnifying glass button, “Search in the project”, in the header.
2. Start typing your query. Part of a word is enough, and letter case doesn't matter.
3. To keep only one type of object in the results, click its button above the results, such as “Task” or “Article”. The button shows how many objects of that type were found.
4. Click the row with the object you need. You can also select a row with the ↑ ↓ arrow keys and press Enter.

The Aurora project header: the Search in the project button with a magnifying glass is numbered 1

The Search in the project window with the query onboarding: the query field is numbered 2, the Task and Article buttons with counters 3, the first result row 4

Taska takes you to where the object is and highlights it. If you pick a board, knowledge base or roadmap, Taska opens it. A task doesn't open in a window. You see its card on its board instead. If the task is closed, the board shows closed tasks automatically. If board filters hide the task, they're cleared.

## What is searched and where results lead

| Type | What is searched | Where the result leads |
|---|---|---|
| Task | Title and description | The card on its board |
| Board, knowledge base, roadmap | Name | The whole section |
| Epic | Title and description | The epic on the roadmap chart |
| Article | Title only | The article in the knowledge base tree |
| Folder | Title and description | The folder in the knowledge base tree |
| Service desk, connection, connector, group | Name. For a connection, also its label and the names of the connected statuses | The object on the “Workflow” map |

The search doesn't look through the text of articles, only their titles. Tasks from “Inbox” aren't included, because they don't sit on any of the project's boards. Closed tasks are included. Sections are found only in an extended project. An archived section is found too, and its row is marked “In archive”.

Below the results, you can see how many objects were found. If there are more than 60 matches, the bottom of the window shows, for example, “Showing 60 of 85”. Then refine your query or turn on the button for the type you need.

## Other ways to open the search

- The “Overview” page of an extended project has a “Search in the project” block. Type your query in its field and press Enter, and the search window opens with the results.
- On a board of an extended project, click “⋮” in the header and choose “Search in the project”.
- On your phone, the search is in the “⋮” menu in the project header.

Your query is kept

If you close the window and open it again in the same project, the previous query and results are still there. This makes it easy to go back to the list and open the next object. To clear the field, click the cross to the right of the query. In another project, the search starts with an empty field.

Nothing is found

The window says “Nothing found”. Check the spelling and try a shorter query, such as part of a word. If you're looking for a word from the text of an article, the search won't find it, because it only checks article titles.

You need to search all projects at once

Project search looks in one project only. To find a task, project or article across all your spaces, press Ctrl+K. See “[Search and quick navigation (Ctrl+K)](https://taska.be/en/help/479-search-and-quick-navigation-ctrlk)”.
