# Roles: owner, admin, member and guest

A team space in Taska has four roles. The owner and admins manage the team, members work in projects, and guests can only view.

## Roles at a glance

- **Owner.** The person who created the space. There's always exactly one. The owner can do everything, including subscribing to a plan and deleting the space. The owner can't leave their own space.
- **Admin.** Described in the interface as “Full management of the space, members and projects”. An admin can do almost everything the owner can, but can't delete the space, start or cancel a subscription, or change another admin's role.
- **Member.** “Can create and edit projects in the space”. Sees all of the team's projects, including future ones, and creates and edits projects, tasks and articles. Can't invite people.
- **Guest.** “Read-only access to projects shared with them”. Views projects, tasks and articles but doesn't create or change anything and can't post in a task chat. Doesn't take a seat in the subscription.

A personal space has no roles: it belongs only to you. You can invite a person to a single project as a member or a guest, see “[Personal and team spaces: what's the difference](https://taska.be/en/help/531-personal-and-team-spaces-whats-the-difference)”.

## Roles for access to a single project or section

You can let a person into a single project, board, knowledge base or roadmap instead of the whole space. In that case the role can only be “Member” or “Guest”. The admin role covers the whole space, so it can't be given for a single project.

A member creates and edits tasks and articles inside the project or section they were given. A guest can only view it. Such a person doesn't see the team's other projects.

An invited person can't archive, delete or move such a project, and these items aren't in their menu. Both a member and a guest can leave the project. The project menu has a “Leave the project” item for this, and a single section has “Leave the section”. See “[‘Invited me’: projects shared with you](https://taska.be/en/help/506-invited-me-projects-shared-with-you)”.

## Where roles are assigned and changed

You pick the role in the “Role” field when you invite someone, as described in “[How to invite teammates by email](https://taska.be/en/help/534-how-to-invite-teammates-by-email)” and “[Invitation links: create, limit and revoke](https://taska.be/en/help/535-invitation-links-create-limit-and-revoke)”. To change the role of someone already on the team, open the space settings, go to the “Members” tab and click “Access” next to that person. In the “Member access” window, the roles are shown as cards with descriptions, and the current one is marked “Current”.

The Member access window: the Admin, Member and Guest role cards with their descriptions are outlined, and the person's current role is marked Current

- The owner can assign any role except their own.
- An admin can assign only “Member” and “Guest”, and only to people who aren't admins. An admin can invite new people as admins right away.
- You can promote a guest to member only if the subscription has a free seat.
- The owner's role can't be changed, and there's no button to transfer ownership. If the team needs to be handed over to another person, contact support as described in “[How to contact Taska support](https://taska.be/en/help/493-how-to-contact-taska-support)”.

## Who takes a seat in the subscription

The owner, admins and members take a seat in the team's subscription, even if a person has access to just one board. Guests have their own limit. On Free Team you can invite up to 5 guests to the space and up to 2 to one project. On Business the limit is 50 guests per space and 50 per project.
