# Why your changes or logged time disappeared

In Taska, changes to the fields are lost if you choose “Don't save” when closing the task window. Logged time is lost when the timer is reset or the task is closed before you send a chat message.

## If you chose “Don't save” when closing the window

Task fields are saved with the “Save” button. If you close the window with unsaved changes, Taska asks whether to save them. “Don't save” closes the window, and your changes to the fields are lost.

How to check. Open the task again. If the fields show the old values, your changes weren't saved.

What to do. Make the changes again and click the “Save” button with a check mark in the bottom right corner of the window. The window closes, and the changes appear on the card. See “[How to save changes to a task](https://taska.be/en/help/510-how-to-save-changes-to-a-task)” for details.

## If the window didn't close after you clicked “Save”

The “Title” is empty or a required field isn't filled in. That field is highlighted in red and shows “Required field”. Fill it in and click “Save” again. If you close the window instead and choose “Don't save”, your changes are lost.

## If a field went back to its old value

- A teammate changed the same field and saved the task after you. The task keeps the value from whoever saved last. You can see who changed the assignee, priority or deadline in the task history. The clock icon in the bottom row of the window opens it.
- The status didn't change, and Taska showed “Transfer is not possible”. The board process doesn't allow that transition. The other fields were saved.

## If a new task disappeared

A task appears only after you click “Create”. If the window was closed earlier, what you entered may be waiting in a draft.

- “Don't save” or “Delete” was chosen in Taska's question. There's no draft, and the files uploaded in the window are deleted. Create the task again.
- You saved a draft or reloaded the page. Open “Create a task” where you started, for example on the same board. A “Draft saved” note appears above the form. Click “Create”.
- The draft didn't open. It's stored only in the browser where you saved it, and it lasts 14 days. After you sign out or clear your browser data, there's no draft either. Create the task again.

See “[How to create a task](https://taska.be/en/help/508-how-to-create-a-task)”.

## If an unfinished chat message disappeared

An unfinished message stays in the field as long as the browser tab with Taska is open, even if you close the task window. After you reload the page, the text is gone.

## If time didn't get into the task

Time from the timer is added to the task only together with a chat message. Until you send a message, the time exists only in the timer.

How to check. A message with logged time shows a clock icon with that time at the bottom.

What to do.

1. Check that the timer above the chat field shows some time.
2. Write in the chat what you did, and send the message. An empty message without text or files won't be sent.

The task chat: the timer above the message field is numbered 1 and the send button 2

After you send it, the timer goes back to zero. If it was running, it starts counting again right away.

## If the timer was reset to zero

- The square button to the right of the timer was clicked. It resets the timer immediately, without asking.
- The task was marked as complete. When a task is closed, your timer for it is deleted along with the unsent time.
- The timer was deleted in the “Timers” panel with the trash icon or the “Delete all timers” button.

This time can't be recovered. If you remember how long you worked, click the timer digits, enter the hours, minutes and seconds, and send a chat message.

## If time disappeared from a task or a report

A message with logged time was deleted. The time leaves the task and the reports together with the message, and it can't be restored. Editing the text of a message doesn't change its time.

## If the timer doesn't start

Time tracking works only in a team space on the Business plan or its trial. In a personal space, Taska offers to create a team space. On Free Team, it offers to upgrade to Business. See “[Time tracking: timer and logging time](https://taska.be/en/help/526-time-tracking-timer-and-logging-time)”.
