# My tasks: grouping, sorting and the project summary

In Taska, you can split the “My tasks” list into groups, sort it and narrow it down to one project. The “Summary by project” shows which projects need your attention.

Which tasks get into each view is covered in “[My tasks: views and what each one shows](https://taska.be/en/help/500-my-tasks-views-and-what-each-one-shows)”. This article is about arranging the view you chose. The buttons are in the header to the right of the title, in this order: “Select tasks”, sorting, the view button and grouping.

## How to group tasks

1. In the sidebar, click “My tasks”.
2. Click the grouping button to the right of the view button. On a wide screen it shows the name of the grouping, for example “By project”.
3. Choose a grouping in the menu.

| Grouping | How the list is split |
|---|---|
| “By project” | One group per project. The group header shows the path “Space / Project”, and for an extended project also the board. Tasks without a project are grouped under “Inbox”. This is the default grouping |
| “By deadline” | The groups “Overdue”, “Today”, “Tomorrow”, “Next 7 days”, “Later” and “No deadline”. The “Next 7 days” group holds tasks for the week ahead, except today's and tomorrow's |
| “By assignee” | First the “You” group, then one group per teammate, and “No assignee” at the end |
| “By status” | One group per status, with the board name next to it. Tasks without a board are grouped under “No status” |
| “By priority” | Groups from the highest priority to the lowest |
| “Without groups” | One single list |

Your personal space appears in group headers as “My projects”. Projects you were invited to from someone else's personal space appear under “Invited me”.

On the right of each group header is the number of tasks in it. Two more icons can appear before it. A speech bubble with a number shows unread messages in the group's tasks, and a red exclamation mark shows the number of overdue tasks.

## How to sort tasks

1. Click the sorting button. It's right after the “Select tasks” button, to the left of the view button.
2. Choose an order. The current one has a check mark.

| Sorting | Which tasks come first |
|---|---|
| “By priority and deadline” | Tasks with a higher priority. With equal priority, the task with the earlier deadline comes first, and tasks without a deadline go last. This is the default sorting |
| “By deadline” | Tasks with an earlier deadline, and tasks without a deadline go last. With the same deadline, the task with the higher priority comes first |
| “By priority” | Tasks with a higher priority. With equal priority, newer tasks come first |
| “By recent activity” | Tasks with a recent chat message, a recent mention of you or a recent move to another column |
| “Newest first” | Tasks created most recently |

There is one sorting for all views, and it applies inside each group. With “By deadline” and “By priority” grouping, the groups themselves keep a fixed order, and with “By assignee” the “You” group always comes first. Otherwise, the group that holds the very first task in the sort order comes first.

## How to show the tasks of one project

1. Choose the “By project” grouping.
2. In the header of the group you need, click the funnel icon in front of the number of tasks (“Only this project”).

A chip with the project name appears above the list. The filter stays when you switch the view or the grouping, and the numbers in the view menu count only this project's tasks. To see all projects again, click the cross on the chip (“Show all projects”).

## How to open the summary by project

1. Click the view button. It shows the name of the current view.
2. At the end of the menu, choose “Summary by project”.
3. Click a number in a cell. That view opens for the selected project only.

The summary has a row for each project where you have tasks. The columns match the views “Assigned to me”, “On fire”, “Mentions and replies”, “Unread”, “Delegated by me” and “Unassigned”. An empty cell means there are no such tasks. Projects with more tasks in the “On fire”, “Mentions and replies” and “Unread” columns come first, followed by projects with more tasks assigned to you.

If there are no tasks in your projects yet, the screen says “Nothing in your projects yet”. The summary has no sorting, grouping or selection buttons.

## What Taska remembers

Taska remembers the view, the grouping and the sorting on this device. The next time you open “My tasks”, the list looks the same. All three settings and the project filter are also part of the page address, so you can bookmark the exact layout you need. The project filter is stored only in the address.

The title has its own row, with the sorting and TaskAI buttons next to it. Below it are “Select tasks”, a full-width view button, the grouping button and a three-dot button labeled “Display” with the card view and focus. The summary shows projects as cards. The icon labels are above them, and under each project name you see only the numbers that aren't zero.
