# Calendar in “Upcoming”: week, month and tasks without a deadline

In Taska, the “Calendar” view lays out your “Upcoming” tasks on a month or week grid. You can drag a task without a deadline from the panel on the left to a day, and it gets a deadline.

The calendar shows the same tasks as the “List” view. These are open tasks with a deadline from all your spaces where you are the assignee or there is no assignee. It also shows future repeats of recurring tasks. The calendar is available on a computer or tablet. On a phone, “Upcoming” always opens as a list.

## How to open the calendar

1. In the sidebar, click “Upcoming”.
2. To the right of the week buttons, click the second icon of the view switch (“Calendar”).
3. Choose the grid scale, “Month”, “Week” or “Work week”. These are the three icons to the left of the view switch.
4. Move through the grid with the “Previous” and “Next” arrows. The calendar icon in front of them (“Today”) takes you back to the current day.

The Upcoming header in the Calendar view: the Calendar icon in the view switch is numbered 2, the Month, Week and Work week icons 3, and the Today, Previous and Next buttons 4

Hover over an icon to see its name. Taska remembers the view and the grid scale on this device. The week opens at the start of your activity hours, and the hours outside your working day are shaded. You set your activity hours in your profile, see “[Profile: name and activity hours](https://taska.be/en/help/488-profile-name-and-activity-hours)”.

## How to give a task a deadline

The “No deadline” panel is to the left of the grid. It holds your open tasks without a deadline where you are the assignee or there is no assignee. Tasks with a higher priority come first, and newer tasks come first among equals. The number in the panel header shows how many such tasks there are.

1. Find the task in the “No deadline” panel.
2. Drag it to a day on the month grid or to an hour on the week grid.

Animation: a task without a deadline is dragged from the No deadline panel to an empty day on the month grid and lands there at 9:00 AM

A “Task updated” notification with the new deadline appears at the bottom. The task leaves the panel and shows up in “Upcoming”, and in “Today” too if the deadline is today.

On the week grid, the deadline is the hour where you drop the card. On the month grid, the time depends on where the card lands in the day.

- In an empty day, the task gets 9:00 AM.
- Below the last task of the day, it gets a time half an hour after that task.
- Above the first task of the day, it gets a time half an hour before that task.
- Between two tasks, it gets the time halfway between them.

You can collapse the panel with the double-arrow button in its header (“Collapse”). The collapsed panel stays as a narrow strip with the number of tasks. Click the strip to expand it again.

## How to move a task or remove its deadline

- On the month grid, drag the card to another day. The time follows the rules above, so it may change. To move a task to another day and keep its time, use the “List” view, see “[Upcoming: tasks day by day](https://taska.be/en/help/499-upcoming-tasks-day-by-day)”.
- On the week grid, a task is a block from its start to its end. Drag the block to change the time. Drag its top or bottom edge to change the start or the end. The time changes in 15-minute steps.
- To remove the deadline, drag the card from the grid back to the “No deadline” panel. You'll see the notification “Task moved to unscheduled tasks.”

If there isn't a free minute between the neighboring tasks, Taska shifts their times slightly so the new task fits in.

## How to create a task in the calendar

- On the month grid, hover over a day. The “+” icon in its top right corner (“Add a task”) puts the task at the start of the day. The “Add a task” button below the day's tasks puts it at the end.
- On the week grid, click an empty spot. You get a half-hour task starting at that time. To set the length right away, drag the pointer across the hours.
- The “+” icon in the “No deadline” panel header creates a task without a deadline.

The “Create a task” window opens. Instead of the “Deadline” field, it has “Start time” and “End time”, already filled in. If you don't pick a project, the task goes to “Inbox” and you become its assignee. A task created in an empty day on the month grid gets a deadline at the start of your activity hours.

## How to show the tasks of one space or project

1. In the header, click the funnel button. On a wide screen, it says “All spaces”.
2. Choose a space or a project. Your personal space is called “My projects” in this list. Projects you were invited to are in the “Invited me” group. You can't choose the whole group, so choose a project.

The All spaces filter button is numbered 1, and the open menu with spaces and their projects is numbered 2

The filter applies to the grid, to the repeats and to the “No deadline” panel. The filter is saved in the page address, so you can share a link to it. To see all tasks again, choose “All spaces” in the same menu.

## Recurring tasks

Future repeats appear on the grid as pale cards. If you drag a repeat or the recurring task itself, the “Move a repeating event” window opens. It has three options.

- “This task”. Only this repeat moves, and it stops repeating. The other repeats stay where they are.
- “This and following tasks”. The repeats start over from the new time. Earlier repeats stay.
- “All tasks”. The whole series moves to the new time.

Choose an option and click “Move”. If you change your mind, click “Cancel”, and the card goes back.

You can't drag a recurring task to the “No deadline” panel. First remove the repeat in the task window, in the “Task recurrence” block. How repeats work is described in “[How to set up recurring tasks](https://taska.be/en/help/519-how-to-set-up-recurring-tasks)”.

How to show closed tasks

In the header, click the eye icon (“Show closed tasks”). Closed tasks appear in each day below a line, and you can't drag them. Click the icon again to hide them. The next time you open the calendar, closed tasks are hidden again.

How to select several tasks in the calendar

Click “Select tasks” in the header and click the cards you need. The bar at the bottom lets you change the deadline, priority or assignee of all of them at once. See “[Selecting tasks and bulk actions](https://taska.be/en/help/521-selecting-tasks-and-bulk-actions)”.

Meetings from your own calendar

The “Connect calendar” button in the header opens your profile on the “Integrations” tab. Once connected, the grid shows your meetings from Google, Yandex or iCal. Only you see them, and they aren't tasks. When a calendar is connected, the button says “Set up calendar”.

Where the buttons are on a small screen

If the window is narrower than 1200 pixels, some header buttons move to the three-dot menu (“Calendar actions”). It holds the grid scale, the view switch, task selection, closed tasks and the calendar connection.
