# Upcoming: tasks day by day

In Taska, “Upcoming” arranges your tasks with a deadline by day for a year ahead. You see what's waiting for you tomorrow and this week, and you can drag a task to another day.

Tasks are picked by the same rule as in “Today”. You see open tasks with a deadline where you are the assignee or there is no assignee. The same “Overdue” block is at the top, and the days follow below. Each day has a header such as “Wednesday, October 28”, and today and tomorrow are labeled “Today” and “Tomorrow”. An empty day says “No scheduled tasks”.

## How to use Upcoming

1. In the sidebar, click “Upcoming”.
2. Click a day in the strip of days under the title. “Upcoming” scrolls to that day. A dot in the corner of a day means there are tasks on that day.
3. To go week by week, click the arrows to the right of the month name. The “Today” button between them takes you back to the current day.
4. Scroll down in “Upcoming”. The next days load automatically.

The Upcoming header: the day strip is numbered 2, the ‹, Today and › buttons 3

You can scroll the strip of days by dragging it sideways with the mouse, or with your finger on a phone.

## How to move a task to another day

1. Find the task in “Upcoming”. If the day is far away, pick it in the strip of days.
2. Drag the card to the day you want.

The deadline moves to the new day, and the time stays the same. You can also drag a task from the “Overdue” block to any day.

If you drag a card within the same day, only the order of tasks changes, not the deadline time. To change the time, open the task, change the “Deadline” field and click “Save”.

## Order of tasks within a day

Until you move anything, the tasks of a day are ordered by deadline time. After you drag them, your own order applies. “Upcoming” keeps its own order, separate from “Today”, even though its first day is today.

## List and calendar views

To the right of the week buttons there is a view switch with two icons. The first one (“List”) shows the days one below another, and the second one (“Calendar”) shows a month or week grid. The calendar shows every repeat of a recurring task and a side panel with tasks that have no deadline. It is described in “[Calendar in ‘Upcoming’: week, month and tasks without a deadline](https://taska.be/en/help/503-calendar-in-upcoming-week-month-and-tasks-without-a-deadline)”. Taska remembers the view you choose on this device.

What the “List” view doesn't have

- A button to create a task. Create the task with “Create a task” in the sidebar and give it a deadline.
- Later repeats of a recurring task. The list shows it only on its nearest date, and after you close it, it moves to the next one.
- Days more than 365 days ahead. Use the “Calendar” view for tasks that far out.

“Upcoming” on your phone

On a phone, “Upcoming” always opens in the “List” view, and there is no “Calendar” view. There is no month name or week buttons either, so you pick days in the strip. To drag a card, press and hold it.
