# Search and quick navigation (Ctrl+K)

To find a project, section, article or task in Taska, press Ctrl+K (⌘K on a Mac) or click “Search” in the sidebar and type part of its name. Search covers all your spaces.

## How to find and open something

1. Press Ctrl+K (⌘K on a Mac) or click “Search” in the sidebar. The search window opens on any screen, even on top of a task window.
2. Type part of the name of a project, section, article or task.
3. Pick a row with the up and down arrow keys and press Enter. Taska goes to where the item lives and highlights it: a task on its board or in “Inbox”, a section in the project's list of sections, an article in the knowledge base tree.
4. To open a task window or a section page right away, press Ctrl+Enter (⌘+Enter on a Mac) or click the arrow button on the right of the row.

Animation: Search is clicked in the sidebar, “release” is typed in the search window, the matching board and tasks appear and the selection moves through the rows

The search window with results: the query field is numbered 2, the selected row 3 and the Open button on its right 4

You can also pick a row with the mouse: a regular click works like Enter, and a click with Ctrl held down (⌘ on a Mac) works like Ctrl+Enter. To close the search window, press Esc or click outside it.

## What search covers

- Names of projects, boards, knowledge bases, roadmaps, articles and tasks in all spaces you work in.
- Roadmap epics, knowledge base folders, service desks, and connectors, connections and groups on a project's workflow diagram.
- Closed tasks. Their names are crossed out in the results.
- A task by its link. Paste the task code, which is the end of the link after “/t/”.

Search only looks at names, not at descriptions or article text. It shows up to 30 rows, and only what you have access to. To search deeper inside one project, use project search, described in “[How to search within a project](https://taska.be/en/help/558-how-to-search-within-a-project)”.

## What you see before typing

- “Recent”. The last 6 items you opened through search. The list is stored in this browser.
- “Favorites”. Your first 6 bookmarks.
- “Go to”. “Inbox”, “Today”, “Upcoming” and “My tasks”.
- “Actions”. “Create a task”.

Ctrl+K doesn't open search

Your cursor is in a task description or in article text. There, Ctrl+K inserts a link. Click outside the text, or open search with the “Search” button in the sidebar.

A recent task shows “Task not found”

The task was deleted, or you no longer have access to it.

On a phone

Open search from the “≡” menu with the “Search” item. You can close the window with the cross, and the arrow button is shown on every row.
